Experience the excitement of fishing in the heart of the city! Surrey offers a few great spots for recreational fishing and hosts educational programs for those who are new to the sport.

Fishing Licence Requirements

All people age 16 years and older must possess a licence to fish in Surrey. Make sure to check what type of licence you need and keep a printed copy with you when you go.

At Green Timbers Lake, a Freshwater Fishing Licence is required. Visit the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Angling Licences and Fees for more information. At Brownsville Bar Park and Surrey Wharf, a Tidal Fishing Licence is required. Visit the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Recreational Licensing for more information.

Surrey Public Wharf 11731 - 130 St North Surrey Fish straight from the newly renovated wharf! Salmon, cutthroat trout, and sturgeon can all be caught in the Fraser River.
Brownsville Bar Park 11931 Old Yale Rd North Surrey Enjoy views of New Westminster while you fish from the sandy beach. Salmon, cutthroat trout, and sturgeon can all be caught in the Fraser River.


Learn to Fish Programs

Learn to fish with the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC every spring and summer. This hands-on program includes a lesson on fish habitat and conservation as well as time to try out fishing. Equipment is provided.

Fishing Rod Loan

Check out the free rod loan program at the Surrey Nature Centre. Through the program, you can borrow a fishing rod and tackle box for up to a week. Rods are available all year on a first-come, first-served basis.
