ARTS 2017: Reflections on Canada

For this special year, ARTS 2017 will celebrate Canada’s 150 birthday by encouraging artists to submit work  that reflects upon Canada—now and in the future. Artworks submitted to this show should represent the artist's ideas or perspective on Canada. Artists are encouraged in particular to consider the following areas of engagement: the environment, diversity & inclusion, youth, or national reconciliation.

Arts Council of Surrey, in partnership with local visual artists and the Surrey Art Gallery, presents this annual juried exhibition. This juried exhibition celebrates artmaking in Surrey and the Lower Mainland, recognizes local artist’s merits and achievements, and creates professional development and promotional opportunities for local artists.

For more information and registration forms, please view the Call To Artists.

Artist Professional Development & Professional Practice Workshops

These workshops further the practice of contemporary art by offering opportunities for artists who wish to enhance their skills and knowledge in creativity, business, or technical areas. The workshops are led by respected artists, art educators, and arts administrators. Instructors have come from the Lower Mainland, Canada, the United States, and Australia.

Participant and instructor input is sought and incorporated into workshop content and scheduling. Email the Visual Art Programmer with your suggestions.

Thursday Artist Talks

This free program of illustrated talks and demonstrations by local and regional artists is organized by the Surrey Art Gallery Association.

Taking place on the first Thursday of the month from September to June, this program provides an opportunity for artists to expose their work and ideas to the public. The public gets a chance to see work in a variety of media by artists in their communities. The talks are followed by conversation over coffee.

If you're an artist interested in presenting your work at a Thursday Artist Talk, please call Joan Owen at 604-531-8118 or Sue Klapwijk at 604-581-0925.

Check out our Events section for the next Thursday Artist Talk.
