Kick off Seniors' Week with a full day of interactive and informative workshops at the Healthy Active Aging Conference!

Choose from a variety of workshops to suit your interests and hobbies and explore information booths to gain information and resources.

The keynote speaker takes the stage from 9am to 10am followed by four sets of breakout sessions (please only sign up for one workshop per time slot).

TravelSmart for Seniors helps seniors be more comfortable and confident when using public transit services for some of their trips. In this presentation you will learn tips and tools to help you independently plan and travel on the public transit system in Metro Vancouver.

Fit 55+ Lite - Chair Exercises (City of Surrey)

A low intensity class designed for adults with physical limitations. Class uses both upper and lower body movements and the exercises are done in and out of chairswith no floor work. Improve circulation and respiration as well as balance, strength and flexibility.

This workshop is designed for family, friends, neighbours, or anyone who wants to learn best practices surrounding how to successfully communicate with a person living with dementia.  It outlines effective appropriate communications skills, using strategies and techniques that are universal, meaning that they are beneficial for people living with dementia as well as those who are not.

In this hands-on workshop led by Surrey Park’s Staff, participants will explore the process of planter design: from determining sun exposure, container selection, plant selection and maintenance. All participants will make a patio planter of their own to take home.

The purpose of this Fire and Fall Prevention presentation is to identify fire and fall hazards that affect older adults here in Surrey. This program provides 12 easy solutions for older adults to implement in their daily lives to reduce the risk of fire and falls.

The Dementia Friends workshop is an opportunity to enhance your knowledge of how to best support people living with dementia in your community. We can all play a role in making our community a great place to live for people with dementia! Presented by the Alzheimer Society of BC.

Mental Health Promotion and Support (RésoSanté Colombie-Britannique)

There is very limited access to affordable mental health support in the community for individuals who might be struggling or are at key transitions in their lives, such as older adults planning to retire. For these reasons, the Canadian Mental Health Association of BC has created two programs for people who want to improve how they deal with life events, stress, mild depression or anxiety. Living Life to the Full — a course delivered in a group format — and Bounce Back — that offer support through telephone coaching and online — will both help you acquire the skills you need to identify and change patterns of thinking and behaviour that cause or maintain symptoms or distress.
