Surrey Fire Customer Service Backpack Program
The Surrey Fire Service always looks to improve service to the people living in and passing through Surrey. This led to the creation of our Backpack program which helps us communicate valuable information either post-disaster or during our routine activities.
Each frontline apparatus carries a red Community Service Backpack. It contains a binder which includes valuable information on a wide range of topics such as fire safety, what to do after a fire, community programs, information on our charitable society, and career or volunteer employment opportunities within the Surrey Fire Service. Brochures on these topics allow fire fighters to give valuable information on the frontlines that a citizen can use directly as a solution to their question or problem.
The give-a-way section of the backpack is comprised of pencils, erasers, stickers, zipper pulls, and felt markers for the children we encounter. Hopefully, we can use these props to deliver a positive message and help our youth make good choices.
This is one of the ways in which we look to provide service which is over and above the call of duty. Fire Fighting in Canada featured this program in a March 2006 article. Read the article (PDF. New window)
